I was driving down the street and I heard this commercial come on the radio. It’s not uncommon to hear ads for payday loan companies out here in Arizona, but this one stood out to me. Thankfully, it wasn’t because I needed a quick loan, but because I was really disappointed in what I heard. The gist is that there is a guy who needs to make ends meet, and his “friend” is mocking him for taking a job as a clown at a kids party as opposed to getting a title loan. It’s a sad statement on where we are as a society. And that’s why so many people are broke; they borrowed today to pay for tomorrow instead of working for today.
So let me get this straight. This company thinks it is better to take out a high priced loan against your vehicle as opposed to earning money? I wonder where they expect him to get the money to pay back the payday loan? He would probably have to do three clown gigs to pay back the ultra high interest those companies charge. The irony is that it’s probably one of the best part time jobs one could get if they were worried about someone seeing them at a part time job. Trust me, I have worked part time jobs where I thought the same “what if a client or coworker sees me here?” The funny thing is that even as a business owner, I will still take on the occasional side gig to back in my savings and I have met many others who do the same.
